Snowdrop House, Oakwood, Leeds
Snowdrop HouseKettlewells Ltd of Wetherby were presented with numerous problems with their new build project of apartments at Snowdrop House at Oakwood Grove, Leeds. The architect incorporated a local traditional design detail of a large semi circular stone soffit which needed to be kept separate from the inner leaf of the timber frame. Under traditional build, the loading of the stone soffit would have been taken up on the inner and external leaf of the building but this was not possible with timber frame construction, so a lightweight solution was required.
We were consulted and manufactured the soffit in stone finish inter locking GRP units which were successfully installed by the on site joiners. As we became more involved with the project, we were asked to produce more products providing lightweight solutions. These included one piece walk-on stone finished square bay tops/balconies, stone chimneys, lead effect roof dormers plus stone and lead effect central external balcony. As always, all products were made bespoke to the architects original design.
Snowdrop House is a good example of how GRP lightweight products work side by side with traditional materials in combination with timber frame and masonry structures.

Singleton Hall , The Fylde
Singleton HallOriginally built in 1855, this wonderful Gothic mansion has recently undergone a major refurbishment and enlargement by Crosby Homes who have converted the building into twenty-one modern, luxurious residences.
The challenge faced by Crosby Homes was to incorporate the original Gothic architecture into the new parts of the building ensuring that they would be sympathetic to the original design.
Crosby Homes turned to us to engineer and build the new single and double oriel windows and dormer constructions. We produced lightweight GRP products which incorporated an appearance and texture of the real sandstone and brick used 150 years ago.

Double Oriel Window
This dramatic window includes a real stone appearance with matching brick panels. It is a perfect match to the original Gothic designs. Its lightweight construction was a faithful reproduction of the original windows.
Single Oriel Window
This complex Single Oriel Window is shown here during manufacture and in situ. It's lightweight construction was the ideal solution for Crosby Homes.
